2019 Tohoku ELT Expo Photos
My zemi (seminar) students were volunteer English-speaking interns at the Tohoku ELT (English Language Teaching EXPO, Dec. 2019. This page is for photos of them.
The 3rd year students did a session called, "Becoming Wonder Woman." It was about how the things they are doing (presenting in English, being interns at JALT2019 in Nagoya, etc. are making them stronger women. This ended with a student writing "problems and challenges on a piece of wood, then smashing through it with a karate chop." HERE is a video of that.
Because of their "Wonder Woman" theme, I gave each of them a "Wonder Woman Headband." HERE is a video of that.
As a person teaching in a business department in a women's university in Japan (conservative business culture), I'm very proud of my students embracing the image of themselves as strong. One thing I noticed that was fascinating. Before their presentation, the 2nd year students were quiet and a bit nervous. This was the first time for most to do a presentation in English in front of strangers. The 3rd year students -- this is their second year in my class so they've been presenting in public for a while, were much more relaxed and confident!
