English in 3D -- A fresh look at traditional tasks (Drills, Dialogs and Dictation).
One of my mentors is John Fanselow, famous for his leadership at Teachers College Columbia University. John is famous for asking teacher and students to "Try the opposite." Do things differently -- you are sure to learn a lot.
In that spirit, I sometimes do a workshop called, "English in 3D -- a fresh look at traditional techniques: Drills, Dictation and Dialogs). In the session, we look at some new ways to do these traditional language practice tasks, then look at some of the options that we often don't notice we have.
I've recently done it for the International University of Japan and Philippines TESOL.
Here is the PowerPoint slide show I use for the workshop. And here is the handout participants work through.
Here's a short article I did on the topic for a book published by Pearson Malaysia.
This video is a version of the workshop I did in early 2016 for the Miyagi Gakuin Women's University Multilingual Workshop series.
