Thank you Mike!
This is the 25th anniversary of the Longman edition of English Firsthand. The authors of Firsthand, plus some of the many authors who Mike has developed and mentored over the year want to say thank you.
Mike Rost has done so much to create Communicative English Teaching in Asia. He also identified and helped the development of more Japan-based ELT authors than probably anyone. He has made a huge contribution to the professionalization of our profession. A few of us are giving him this award at JALT2015:

Bruce Springsteen sings that he learned more from a three-minute record than he ever learned at school. I can safely say I’ve learned more about listening from you than I ever learned in grad school.

Michael was a master of T.S. Elliot’s maxim: An editor should tell the author his writing is better than it is. Not a lot better, a little better.

Mike is a true pioneer. He was one of the first ESL educators back in the 1980s to break away from the traditional model of grammar translation in second language learning into a functional, communicative model.
